Under the shelter of lush rainforest, the archeological site of Kohunlich is an outstanding example of Maya architecture. Palaces, citadels, temples, such as the top attraction Temple of the Masks, and other elaborate structures are scattered over an area of more than 20 acres, with most landmarks dating back to as early as 250 to 600 AD. Chetumal is a common starting point to visit Kohunlich, but tours are available at the Costa Maya Cruise Port as well. If you are in the area, don't miss out on the opportunity to visit Dzibanche, another outstanding Maya landmark around 20 miles away from Kohunlich.

This sublime concert hall designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and built between 1905 and 1908 is not quite as wacky as some of Gaudí's architecture, but it is still equally impressive. The Palace of Catalan Music not only pays tribute to the musical heritage of the Catalans but to all music, as well as beauty, colour, and joy.

The Bigo lift, designed by Genoese architect Renzo Piano, is a massive spider-like structure with a viewing cabin that lifts you 40 metres high for a fabulous view. Na Muang Waterfalls, also called "Purple Waterfalls", are located in a lush jungle environment. They can easily be reached going off the main Ring Road Route 4169 about halfway between Nathon and Lamai Beach. These waterfalls are considered to be among the most scenic ones, hence popular places for families to relax and swim.
