Just a short 30-minute drive from New Smyrna Beach, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge spans 140,000 acres of diverse habitats, from marshes to coastal dunes. It’s a sanctuary for Florida’s native wildlife, including over 500 documented species and 330 species of birds, along with several threatened and endangered species. The scenic Black Point Wildlife Drive, a 7-mile loop with numbered stops, is perfect for spotting animals and taking in the serene landscapes. At the junction of Nezavisimosti and Zakharava is this huge square, with a giant victory obelisk emerging from the centre. The monument has an eternal flame at its feet, which has been burning since 1954, and is accessible from an underground passageway.

The Turning Torso is a neo-futurist skyscraper designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and built in 2005. At 190 metres, it was the tallest building in the Nordic region until September 2022, when it was surpassed by Karlatornet in Gothenburg, which is still under construction. The Turning Torso consists of nine cubes with a total of 54 floors, where winding from base to peak is 90 degrees. Today, the Turning Torso is a residential building with 147 apartments of various sizes, from one-bedroom studios of 45 square metres to threes bedroom flats of 190 square meters. During the summer you have the opportunity to visit its top floor.
