Durban is home to some of South Africa's finest stretches of sand. The Golden Mile in central Durban is a collection of multiple well-kept beaches fit for both swimming and surfing and equipped with all necessary amenities; Umhlanga beaches to the north are known for being cleaner and less crowded.

Maria Island is a natural wildlife sanctuary and off-shore retreat with historic ruins, sweeping bays, dramatic cliffs and plenty of stories to tell. Located off Tasmania's east coast and accessible only by ferry, Maria Island contains the most intact example of a convict probation station in Australia. Spend the night and piece together Tasmania’s intriguing convict history, encounter very cute wildlife and explore Maria Island’s pristine beaches and ancient forests. The island offers excellent walking and cycling journeys and a limestone quarry at the Fossil Cliffs provides a fascinating close-up look at the many ancient creatures immortalised as fossils in the rocks. The Painted Cliffs at Hopground Beach are beautifully patterned sandstone shaped by the mineral-rich water and wind.

The Betsy Ross House is an 18th-century home that is believed to have been the residence of the renowned seamstress and flag-maker Betsy Ross. Legend has it that she sewed the first American flag here. Visitors are invited to tour the house and partake in the interactive exhibits and programs and even meet a Betsy Ross impersonator, who works in the upholstery shop and can answer questions about her fascinating life.

The Chania Museum of Typography traces the development of typography from the Gutenberg era until today. You will see different tools, objects, machines and prints which have been used throughout the making of contemporary print. Lectures and readings are held on occasion.
