In and around Säfsen, there are 175 lakes, ponds and streams offering fantastic fishing opportunities all year round. Here, the seasoned sport fisher finds new challenges, and beginners can easily take their first step into fishing. There's also accessibility for anglers with disabilities. The North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial honours 2,841 WWII soldiers who fell during the often-overlooked North African campaign. Spread across 27 acres, their headstones align in nine precise plots, divided by paths meeting at decorative pools. The chapel and memorial court feature mosaic maps detailing American military operations across Africa to the Persian Gulf. Their design blends seamlessly with local architecture, creating a space of quiet reflection.

Hard to miss and easy to linger in, this L-shaped square is basically an open-air museum. Grab a seat at a café (yes, it’s pricey, but the people-watching is worth every euro), and you’ve got front-row views of Palazzo Vecchio, the Fountain of Neptune, and the statue of Cosimo I on horseback. Just off to the side is the Loggia dei Lanzi, packed with Renaissance sculptures—all free to see, no ticket needed. Early mornings or late evenings are quieter if you want to take it all in without the daytime crowds.

This 200-acre preserve offers a mix of uplands, wetlands, and serene waterways perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Stroll along nature trails, cast a line from the fishing piers, or enjoy a meal at the picnic pavilion. It’s a great spot for birdwatching and spotting local wildlife.
