This spectacular urban Buddhist temple (the head temple of the Jogye Order) is a highlight on any Busan itinerary. A pleasant uphill hike through quiet nature will take you to temple grounds, with beautiful ornate pavilions, Buddhist statues and worshippers, which include both temporary visitors and monks who reside here permanently. Temple grounds tend to get busy during holidays and weekends. You can either make a few hours' trip or – for full cultural immersion – book an overnight stay that includes an introduction to monastic life, complete with joining a formal dinner and pre-dawn chanting. Stays must booked in advance via the website, and there are several different programmes available. If you opt for the full experience, do mind that the (silent!) wake-up hour is at 5am.

This is not just a park, but a representative scenic area covers more than 120 hectares. The park contains rivers, mountains, Chinese gardens, traditional architectures and an underground cave. The Seven Star Cave in the park is a fantastic karst cave with a large number of stalagmites and stalactites, which transform the cave into a surreal place. If you can only visit one place in Guilin, this should be it.

The two-mile stretch of beach south of central Honolulu is the island's main resort area and, thus, one of the biggest draws for tourists who flock here for laid-back vibes, gentle surf, dining, entertainment, nightlife and shopping. Lying in the shadow of the Diamond Head makes not only stunning views but also an easy access to one of Hawaii's most famous landmarks.

Similar to its Paris namesake, Bucharest’s Triumphal Arch, standing tall at 26 metres, remembers Romania’s Great War soldiers and its reunification in 1918. Initially, the arch was built out of wood in 1922, and was then finished in Deva granite in 1936. The Triumphal Arch becomes the main stage for the military parade every December 1st, when Romanians celebrate their National Day.
