Just outside Bilbao, in Biscay, the Vizcaya Bridge (Puente Bizkaia) — also called Puente Colgante or the Hanging Bridge — is the world’s oldest transporter bridge, completed in 1893. It connects Portugalete and Las Arenas (Getxo) across the Nervión River and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. You can cross either by the gondola, which carries vehicles and passengers in about 90 seconds, or on the pedestrian walkway, accessed via lifts in the towers. The bridge stands 45 m high and 160 m long, and its iron-and-steel design was a milestone of industrial-age engineering.

Bergen is surrounded by seven mountains, the highest of which, at 643 metres, is Mount Ulriken. Take the cable car up to the top or if you're feeling adventurous, choose one of the routes to the summit and conquer the mountain on foot or by bike.

The New Venetian Fortress is an old military complex loaded with interesting tunnels, cellars, and dungeons. It provides excellent views of the Old Town and the bay. Look out for the two lions of St Mark and the Venetians' inscriptions on the bastion walls above.

Sidari represents the most developed tourist area on the north coast of Corfu and offers nice beaches. It is also known for the channel of love, Canal d'Amour, a series of rock formations which create small bays and a kind of channel with crystal clear water. According to the legend, lovers who swim into the channel together will love each other forever.
