Dating back to the colonial era, the Dutch Hospital has served as a hospital for Dutch officers, a police station after the country's independence, and in 2011, it was converted into a shopping and dining complex. A nice place to hang out, grab a bite, and marvel at the beautifully preserved seventeenth-century colonial architecture.

The Flamingo Beach is one of Costa Rica's most popular beaches with fine white sand, clear blue waters, lagoons, vegetation and lots of activities on offer. The coastline is dotted with secluded beaches, with mountains jutting out into the sea and creating quiet and secluded lagoons. The area is possibly best known for its scuba diving opportunities. There are several dive shops in town which provide service to the Catalina Islands and the Bat Islands. The waters around these islands are teeming with marine life, including the majestic giant Pacific manta.

The name has Arabic origins and means archipelago, referring to the group of islands Mafia is made up of. The area was under German control in the late 1800s, but its early history dates back to as early as the 8th century. Apart from ancient landmarks, the place is home to the first marine park of Tanzania — Mafia Island Marine Park. With coral reefs and wildlife such as whale sharks and sea turtles, it is a true snorkelling paradise. Home to the fames Ras Kisimani and Utende beaches.

In 1996, American artist James Turrell designed the Celestial Vault to showcase the sky in all its glory using an innovative astronomical optical illusion. In the centre of this grassy artificial crater, there is a stone bench on which visitors can lie to observe the sky as a curved dome, emphasising the way light affects how we perceive things and inviting those willing to challenge their own perceptions.
