Right next to the Capitol, the Botanic Garden is a quiet spot with both indoor conservatories and outdoor plots. Inside, you can walk through rainforest and desert environments under glass; outside, there are seasonal displays and a rose garden. It’s not huge, so an hour or so is usually enough, but it’s a nice break from the busier sights on the Mall. Entry is free, and there are programs and exhibits for all ages.

The Margaret Mitchell House is where the author of "Gone with the Wind" wrote much of her famous novel. Now a museum, it gives a glimpse into Mitchell’s life and the impact of her book, which remains one of the best-selling novels of all time. You can tour the small apartment where she lived and worked, see exhibits about the book’s history, and learn more about its cultural impact.

The Rance Tidal Power Station was one of the first hydroelectric power stations in the world when it first opened in 1966. Today it is the world's second biggest tidal power station. There are boat tours up the river during high season, during which you can enjoy a lovely view of the bay.

Founded in 1922, The Barnes Foundation is a must-visit for art lovers, housing one of the world's finest collections of impressionist, post-impressionist, and early modern art. The collection includes masterpieces by renowned artists like Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, and Van Gogh, along with remarkable African, Native American, and Pennsylvania German art.
