White sand and turquoise water are the key ingredients to Monastir's beaches. The most obvious choice would be to head straight to Karaia (Qaraiya) beach, which is one of the focal points of the city. However, it does get very busy in high season. For those willing to venture a little further afield for some R&R, the beaches of Sousse such as Bou Jaafar and Las Vegas Beach are particularly beautiful. The coast between Monastir and Sousse is a bit more utilitarian but could prove to be an interesting adventure as the locals will often come there to cast a fishing line on the beaches and for all horse lovers, there is riding and racing further inland at the Monastir Hippodrome and the Eki Club. Just beware that there is not a lot of shade on offer along the waterfront, so be sure to pack the SPFs.

Formerly a coal port, the city's central park has developed into locals' favourite outdoor spot since the 1980s, proudly holding a Landscape Architecture Prize for the design by Peter Latz. It has a photographable open-air stage, a pond, skate park, and plenty of paths for a stroll along the Saar river. It neighbours on the movie theatre CineStar, among other attractions.

The Hellabrunn Zoo follows the geo-zoo concept, a pioneering approach established over a century ago. It showcases animals grouped by their continents of origin, aiming to maintain them in their natural habitats as much as possible. This allows visitors to experience a diverse array of wildlife from around the globe in a single day, including penguins, elephants, kangaroos, sea lions, birds of prey and carnivores.

Witness the Neuschwanstein fairytale castle that inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle, as well as the Linderhof Palace on a magical day trip from Munich. Built by Germany's King Ludwig II on a rugged hill against a backdrop of Bavaria's lush and picturesque mountain scenery, the Schloss Neuschwanstein is a stunning piece of architecture, which one could literally spend hours staring at. The Linderhof Palace, the smallest of the three palaces associated with King Ludwig II, served as his primary residence for much of his life.
