A must-see landmark, the Monument to the Soviet Army is a nostalgic reminder of socialist times. It shows a brave soldier surrounded by hard-working members of the proletariat looking ahead to the bright future that awaits. Located at the eastern entrance to Borisova Gradina park. During the summer months, Sundays take on a special rhythm as people gather next to this monument with a speaker to dance salsa and bachata. Anyone passing by is welcome to join in.

The Boulevards along the Vistula river are the ideal place for a stroll or a bicycle trip. The exceptional atmosphere of this site is created by the sail-shaped lamp posts and pergolas that offer shade on sunny days. Every year in the month of August, reggae fans are in for a treat on the island of Saint Lucia. With afro-punk, R&B and hip-hop outfits all regularly on the line-up too, the Roots & Soul festival is three days of reggae classics as well as the most innovative names on the current scene. Live shows usually take place at a couple of different locations on the island, such as Rodney Bay and the Pigeon Island National Landmark.

Further inland, in the southern part of the island, lie the so-called masticochoria (mastic villages). These well-preserved, fortified villages date from the 14th-16th centuries and were centres for the cultivation of mastic. Mastic is the sweet-tasting gum of the lentisk bush, which was exported all over the Mediterranean – and the area still produces around 300 tonnes of mastic every year. The most picturesque villages are Pyrgi, with its houses decorated in black and white geometric patterns called xysta Mesta, where towers and walls surround a baffling labyrinth of village streets as well as Olympoi and Vessa are all a worth a visit.
