Pico de Ana Ferreira is a peak on Porto Santo, home to one of the island’s most mesmerising natural sights: the Organ Pipes. These vertical, pentagonal basalt columns, formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago, rise straight up from the mountainside, perfectly shaped and stacked as if carved by hand. Up close, their size and symmetry are even more impressive. A short trail continues from the base of the columns to the Ana Ferreira Cave near the summit. The cave is huge and offers a fantastic view over the eastern side of Porto Santo, including the island’s peaks.

Express Watersports is the first stop for every kind of water activity you can think of in Murrells Inlet. Whether you’re looking at arranging kayaking or cruises, there is a wide variety of options to match everyone’s tastes. For the more adventurous, the chance to scuba dive for treasure may be too much to resist.

Beit Al-Sharbatly is a distinguished 1930s mansion in Al-Balad, celebrated for its ornate Hejazi architecture. Its façade is defined by elaborate rawasheen (projecting bay windows) featuring intricate mashrabiya (wooden lattice screens). Completed in 1936, the building first housed the Egyptian Embassy before being acquired by the prominent Al-Sharbatly trading family. While the house has been restored and is admired for its almost cinematic exterior, public access can be unpredictable. The interior is not consistently open to casual visitors, so it is best appreciated from the outside.

A range of treks is available for those keen to explore the jungle in depth. Temperatures can drop to 13°C at night, so bring your own sleeping bag and warm clothing. Proper shoes for varied terrain are essential. Mosquito nets are usually provided. Some treks offer porters to carry your backpack. Consider what you want to experience: options include fish massages, forest reserves, monkey sanctuaries, and white water rafting through the jungle.
