Discover one of Cairo’s most dramatic buildings — the Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hassan. It’s massive, quiet, and built to impress. Built in the 14th century as both a mosque and religious school, it’s still one of the city’s architectural standouts.

One of the nation’s five research universities, UD celebrated its centenary in 2012. The glass-ceilinged cour d’honneur of the main edifice, built in Eclectic and Neo-Baroque style, is skirted by an arcaded corridor system, whose walls are inscribed with the names of the school’s most renowned professors and former students. The fountain in the spacious French-style park in front of the building plays a special role in student tradition: Graduates are supposed to take a plunge in its pool after their finals.

Pearl collecting has long been a central tradition in Bahrain, and the Pearling Path Visitor and Experience Center brings this heritage to life. Located in the former capital, Muharraq, the site tells the story of the village’s roads, houses, and daily life during the pearling era. The restored historic homes provide a glimpse into how people once lived, while the trail itself reflects the cultural and economic importance of pearling, which once dominated the Gulf. Today, the Pearling Path offers a walking route through some of Muharraq’s oldest and most atmospheric neighbourhoods.

One of Cairo’s oldest churches, the Hanging Church dates back to the third century and sits above a gatehouse of the old Roman fortress—that’s where it gets its 'hanging' name. Inside, you’ll find a wooden roof shaped like Noah’s Ark, ancient icons, and a calm vibe that feels a world away from the city’s chaos.
