A nearly uninterrupted 14-kilometre stretch of sand extends from Geraki to Laganas, forming one of the last major nesting sites for the endangered loggerhead turtle. To protect the species, much of Laganas Bay is designated as a National Marine Park, where powered water sports are prohibited. Despite these conservation efforts, the resort of Laganas itself remains the island's largest and most bustling centre for nightlife, known for its concentration of pubs, bars, and clubs. For a quieter experience, a narrow wooden footbridge connects the coast near Agios Sostis Beach to the small and picturesque Cameo Island.

Mamalahoa Kona Heritage Corridor was named in honor of Kamehameha the Great’s “Law of the Splintered Paddle.” The storied footpath granted runners safe passage for centuries, and today the 10-mile Mamalahoa (paddle) Kona Heritage Corridor survives with stories of Hawaii's past and present. The immigrant influences of Europe, Asia and the Americas are still evident in the historic architecture, shrines, coffee farms, art galleries and Holualoa Village.

Across from the Government Palace sits one of the city's historic jewels. Casa de Aliaga is not only the oldest colonial mansion in Lima, but also the oldest house in America, which was owned by Jerónimo de Aliaga since 1535, and still serves as a home for his descendants eighteen generations later. Richly decorated salons, vintage furnishings and some artefacts, including the sword used by Jerónimo de Aliaga when he conquered Peru are showcased here.
