The permanent exhibitions at the Västerbotten Museum delve into the county's ancient history, cultural heritage, settler life and reindeer husbandry. It also houses a remarkable photographic collection of Sune Jonsson, capturing the essence of the Norrland agricultural landscape. In the summer, the outdoor museum at Gammlia buzzes with activity. Historical buildings, relocated from various parts of the county, together with period-costumed cottage hosts and farm animals, create an authentic atmosphere. Three different Sami settlements have been recreated at Gammlia. In the winter, visitors can explore the permanent exhibitions and wander through the grounds.

At the Museum of Painting and Sculpture you can find a major permanent collection of modern Turkish paintings, featuring works by Osman Handi and Hikmet Onat. This space also features temporary exhibitions of international works.

A defining piece of Texas history, the San Jacinto Museum sits on the very battlefield where Texas won its independence from Mexico. Located at the base of the towering 567-foot San Jacinto Monument, the museum houses one of the largest collections of Texan art, artifacts, and historical exhibits. For a panoramic view of the historic battleground and the surrounding area, take the elevator to the top of the monument—it's the tallest war memorial in the U.S. and offers a unique perspective on the site where Texas' future was decided.

The National Cathedral sits on Mount St. Alban and is one of the largest cathedrals in the country. The stained glass, stone carvings, and soaring ceilings are impressive, and the grounds are pleasant to wander. Guided tours, led by staff who know the history and architecture inside out, are the best way to explore.
