Örnsköldsvik is located in the northern part of the High Coast of Sweden. The landscape here is varied with coast and cliffs, inland and forest. In Örnsköldsvik’s archipelago, you will find twenty major and many smaller islands scattered in the sea. Names like Ulvön and Trysunda are worth remembering. Fishing villages, fermented herring, smoked whitefish, rocks, birds and sailing are some of the things you will experience here in Västernorrland County.

This giant panoramic work of art spans forty metres in circumference and reaches fourteen metres in height, capturing the small fishing village of Scheveningen as it was in the late nineteenth century in a cyclorama. It creates the illusion that the observer is atop a large sand dune looking down upon the village, an illusion which is complemented by the foreground within the artwork that is made up of artificial terrain. The museum is dedicated to the single work of art from Hendrik Willem Mesdag and there are lots of ways to experience it including a guided tour, lectures and even children’s treasure hunts.

Galtström is located at what once was Medelpad's first, largest and last ironworks, along the coast south of Sundsvall. A visit to Galtström is like a journey through time. In the wonderful environment you can feel the wing beat of history, ride a steam train, wander in nature, or take a dip in the sea from cliffs and sandy beaches. The site includes a restaurant, a playground, fascinating ruins, and is very child-friendly. SCA, which owns and manages the ironworks, offers guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer.
