The Tareq Rajab Museum of Islamic Calligraphy is a highly specialised institution dedicated entirely to the art of Arabic script. Housed in a private villa just blocks away from the Tareq Rajab Museum, it showcases a vast and diverse collection that spans centuries, from a rare 7th-century Hijazi folio to works by master calligraphers. The exhibits demonstrate the application of calligraphy across various mediums, including manuscripts, ceramics, metalwork, and textiles. More than a historical archive, the museum presents calligraphy as a living, evolving art form, offering a profound and intimate exploration of one of the Islamic world's most revered artistic traditions.

Gendarmenmarkt square is a beautiful example of an architectural ensemble which includes both the French and the German cathedrals, as well as the Concert House. Many Berliners believe that the Gendarmenmarkt is the most beautiful place in Germany and indeed in all of Europe. A must-see for all visitors to Berlin.

Built in the mid-18th century for the Qing emperors as a retreat from the heat of the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace is a vast imperial garden centred on Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill, both man-made. The lake was modelled on Hangzhou’s West Lake, with islands, bridges, and long covered walkways. Scattered around are pavilions, temples, and a recreated riverside street designed to look like a traditional market town. Later restored under Empress Dowager Cixi, it became her favoured residence. Today, it’s worth visiting not just for the palaces themselves, but for the long lakeside walks, shaded courtyards, and the sense of space that feels very different from central Beijing.
