Save the date of the Nantes Summer festival, come and join from June 30th till August 26th! The Voyage à Nantes is a poetic urban trail along a green line designed on the pavement of the city of Nantes. Artists, designers, gardeners, cooks, DJs and graffiti artists are invited to express their creativity in public spaces. With 40 amazing steps to link up the whole cultural package, the town goes a little bit further off-beat than normal. Must see: the ephemeral installations, the works of art. Must experience: the places where it’s good to meet, coming together unexpectedly. Must try: the local produce grown in town centre vegetable gardens or cooked at a secret dinner. The old city centre is steeped in history. You will find it in ancient building-fronts on narrow streets or in the imposing Grand-Place. The Plantin-Moretus Museum is the only museum in the world to be classified as a Unesco World Heritage site. In the shadow of the Cathedral of Our Lady, the city teems with life in intimate pubs and restaurants. The banks of the Scheldt are a great place for a breath of fresh air.

Tasty Antwerp: Eilandje

Het Eilandje – ‘The Little Island’ – is so-called for good reason: Antwerp’s oldest port area is surrounded by water. Today, port activity is more concentrated in the north, but the feeling of a port is still very much present. Savour the historical atmosphere of the old loading dock with its monumental warehouses, lanterns, hangars and cobblestones. Three major attractions, MAS | Museum aan de Stroom, the Red Star Line Museum and the Port House, have once again drawn attention to the links between the city and the water.

Zurenborg is quite possibly the most beautiful neighbourhood in Antwerp. It flaunts its belle époque grandeur like a coquettish lady. It proudly shows surprised visitors its art nouveau façades, elegant streets and squares. But the highlight is the 19th century Cogels-Osylei: sublime architecture from around the turn of the previous century.

Het Zuid is highly attractive to locals and visitors alike. You will find stately mansions, wide boulevards and beautiful squares there. Art lovers will appreciate the many art galleries and museums such as the FOMU | Photo Museum and M HKA | Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp. Thanks to its many well-frequented cafés and restaurants, Het Zuid is also a very popular night spot.

The Theatre District owes its name to the many theatres here. This is the working habitat of many directors, actors, dancers and musicians: in the pubs you can almost hear the creativity bubbling away. It’s worth a visit during the day, too, because you’ll find many fashion, antique and interior design shops here, as well as two small but beautiful museums: the Maiden’s House Museum and the Museum Mayer van den Bergh.

St. Andrew's was once known as ‘the Parish of Hardship’, but those days are long since passed. The Fashion Museum is the public face of the neighbourhood, and in the Nationalestraat and Kammenstraat area vintage clothing and haute couture go hand in hand. There’s always something going on in this district. And don’t miss Kloosterstraat, with its shops full of antique treasures and bric-a-brac.
