Olbia - Shopping
Sardinia has a very rich tradition of craftware, but, before heading off to the souvenir shops, try to check out the authentic article, and compare prices, in the ISOLA outlets. The ISOLA has shops in big cities such as Cagliari and Sassari, but there’s also one in Porto Cervo.
Ceramics are popular and make good souvenirs and some of the best come from around the Costa Smeralda, Alghero and Santa Teresa di Gallura. Also in the north, Castelsardo has a long tradition of basketware. Inland, the area around Tempio Pausania, specialises in splendid wool carpets in geometric designs.
For food delights, red Cannonau wine (increasingly believed to be the elixir of long life) or sweet Malvasia dessert wines, olive oil, pecorino cheese, mountain honey, torrone nougat and Nuorese sweetmeats should all be high on the shopping list.
Street markets are held on Tuesday and Saturday in Olbia. Wednesday – Arzachena and La Maddalena Thursday Santa Teresa Friday – Palau Sunday Baia Sardinia.
