Poitiers - The City
Poitiers is a mix of history, beautiful architecture and modern life. Sometimes called the “City of a Hundred Bell Towers”, Poitiers boasts 78 protected historic monuments, medieval streets, 19th century boulevards and half-timbered houses. Famous monuments such as Notre-Dame-la-Grande church and the Saint-Pierre Cathedral attract thousands of tourists every year to the city, which is situated on a hill overlooking the Clain and Boivre rivers. But Poitiers also manages to remain young and vibrant thanks to its lively bars, trendy cafés, funky clubs - and the roughly 24 000 students in the city.
