Alpe d’Huez - The Resort
Located in the central Northern French Alps, just an hour drive from Grenoble, Alpe d’Huez is one of Europe’s premier ski destinations. Created in the early thirties, it gained huge popularity when it hosted the bobsleigh events of the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics.
Originally a relatively small resort, its expansion to higher altitudes and surrounding villages boosted the quantity and quality of intermediate grade slopes. Today’s Alpe d’Huez reputation is founded as a free skiing Mecca, drawing many steep skiing enthusiasts to its high altitude terrain. The Pic Blanc, reaching 3,330 metres at its highest point, offers and impressive and reviving panorama. From there, you’ll enjoy a 2,230 metres vertical drop, including one of the world’s longest black run, the Sarenne, with a length of 16 km.
In addition, the resort offers all commodities to enjoy your “après-ski” time, including a great nightlife and excellent local gastronomy from the Oisans region.
